This work explores the resilience and persistence of life that endure amidst abrupt environmental shifts, captured through the adaptation process of lawn grass transplanted into an artificial indoor space. In particular, it is deeply intertwined with the artist’s own journey of life—overcoming a rare illness that caused total paralysis.
Unexpected illness, loss, and the sudden uprooting of one’s life foundations arrive unannounced in human existence. Through the cyclical process of life and death —as plants wither or sprout new shoots within an unfamiliar space—the artist projects the trajectories of tragedy and triumph. The weeds and tiny creatures discovered amidst the decaying foliage subtly imply that even death and despair mark the genesis of a new beginning.
The fierce vitality of the plant, forcing its way past the dying leaves, embodies an indomitable will to survive. Yet, the tender sprout emerging through the cracks—ah, how small and beautiful it is!
